It all began freshman year of high school as she made her way to the Martin Luther King High School gym for volleyball tryouts. The rest is history.
"Once I found out I could play, I was all for it," said Reilly Stevens, 19, a sophomore
outside hitter for the Fullerton College volleyball team.
Her volleyball idols are USA Olympic-gold medalists Misty May and Keri Walsh.
Stevens and the Hornets (4-3) have had their struggles so far this season. Not only does she believe there is room for improvement but she is confident it will happen soon.
"With some work, we can be great," Stevens said. The team's goals are to go to the state championship and bring home the trophy. On the other hand, her personal goals are to get noticed by four-year schools and receive a scholarship.
Standing 5-9, with green fingernails and a big smile, Stevens runs to the court, almost hopping from the excitement. Her dedication and passion for the game are evident.
When she's not on the court, Stevens is studying for her Biology degree."I love all that science stuff" says Stevens. Born Victorria Sheyne-Reilly Stevens, her loved ones simply call her Reilly. Her mother started calling her Reilly at a young age and it stuck since.
Although she spends a lot of time at practice and in class, her interests are not only in volleyball and academics. She also starred as a Goalie for her high school soccer team on their way to multiple tournament victories. In her free time, she likes to go shopping and dancing, but her teammates say she really loves to ride around in her new truck.
"[Volleyball] is like my own little sanctuary. If I'm having any problems, I can just go to volleyball and get away". One thing many people don't know about Stevens is that she has many different sides to her. "I can be really nice or really mean. And I am really funny if you get to know me."
After Fullerton, Stevens plans to stay on the west coast for further education. If all goes to plan, she will be attending San Diego State.
