The Fullerton Hornets jumped all over Cerritos College freshman pitcher Nick Quezada early in the ball game taking an early 4-0 lead in the third inning.

A fourth inning lead-off homerun off the bat of sophomore second baseman Joe Terry started the scoring rally for the Falcons, as they would slowly climb their way back into the game, while Quezada settled down and lasted 7 frames in a 6-5 Falcon come from behind victory on opening day.

Quezada came out on the mound looking shaky, but was able to rebound and find his command. He gave up four runs, three earned on his way to striking eight hitters.

"We had him on the ropes, but then we let him off the hook," said Nick Fuscardo FC Head Coach. "We should have buried him when we had the opportunity and we didn't do that. What he ended up doing was building his confidence and hanging in there."

Freshman Pitcher Patrick McGrew, got the opening day start for the Hornets and allowed two scattered hits in 4 1/3, but three walks hurt him in allowing two runs.

"I thought we played really well," Fuscardo said. "We let a really close game that we should have had get away from us."

First baseman George Flores went 2-for-4 and scored two of the Hornets runs. Third baseman J.P. LaMunyon also went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs for the hornets.

In the bottom of the eighth inning Falcon third baseman Jake Mayrol drew a two-out bases loaded walk that drove in the game-winning run.

Yesterday the Hornets played El Camino College on the road and were handed to them their second consecutive loss in as many games.

The Hornets continue to struggle on the mound early this season. Last season the team finished the season with a 6.21 earned run average. Through the teams first two games Hornet pitchers have already given up 17 earned runs.

Fuscardo's hornets are looking to turn things around immediately and have a six-game home stand begging this Saturday when the Hornets host Palomar College.

"We want to win all of our home games, that is our goal," Fuscardo said. "Being at home is very important; it is expected for us to play well at home. Guys are coming into your house and we are looking to turn things around here at home."
