Mother tries to take back what she gave

Wednesday morning, Thuy Le, a 38-year-old mother of two daughters, ages 3 and 5, admittedly stabbed both daughters and herself at a relative's house in Westminster.

Le reportedly stayed the night at her cousin's house with her two daughters. Toan Pham, 51, was woken up by children screaming and found Le and her two daughters covered in blood, unable to talk. Le had stabbed her daughters with a kitchen knife, critically wounding the oldest daughter, and then turned the knife on herself.

All three were rushed to University of California Irvine Medical Center where the 5-year old, who had been stabbed in the chest, underwent surgery and is in a medically induced coma. Le and her youngest are in stable conditions; all three are now expected to survive.

Once released from the hospital, Le will be arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

"My cousin really loves her children," said Pham. Then why would this loving mother do this to her helpless children? There are no confirmed reasons yet as to why Le attempted to take away the lives she created, but Le's financial stature could be the answer to everyone's curiosity.

Le has had trouble selling her failed massage therapy business and has been neck-deep in debt.

Has this nation's economic crisis led people to commit heinous crimes? Within a 100 mile radius from Fullerton, there have been several reported attempted murder cases within the past year that link to the person's financial problems.

People have now gone to extreme measures to end these problems. Unfortunately, the most popular method has been murder; ending feeble lives because of their own troubles.  Le's act was an act of selfishness. There is no legitimate reason to take a life for the purpose of "ending" family financial dilemmas.

It is the parent's responsibility to provide their children with the necessities to live even through troubled times.
