Was Obama’s efforts towards getting the Olympics to Chicago justified?

Barack Obama has already done many controversial things in his short term as president, but many believe he has finally crossed the line.

Barack Obama has faced his most recent scrutiny in his trip to Copenhagen to support having the 2016 Summer Olympic games come to Chicago.

Many disagree with the president's decision to leave a struggling US, in the wake of budget problems and high unemployment, in order to pitch an idea that could possibly leave taxpayers in the hole to the International Olympic Committee.

"I'd like to know how we're going to pay for all of this," Doris Pullman, a 68-year old retiree, said in a Yahoo interview.

Although many are worried about what could possibly happen to the cities funds, getting the summer games back in the US would have been best in the long run.

Not only would the games essentially pay for themselves but the worries about the taxpayer's money are all for not, because the IOC requires the city's money to be secure by billions in private insurance money.

"We've got to have the Olympics," said a 38-year-old construction worker through another Yahoo interview. "We need the work."

The acquisition of the summer games would have lead to hundreds of opportunities for construction workers, because of the new venues that would have been needed to be built in order to fulfill the crowd's needs. The large crowds attending the games would have brought tourism and prestige to Chicago and the United States.

When all is said and done, there we're no real risks involved. Only good things could have come from Obama bringing the Olympics to Chicago.
