With change comes fear of the unknown. This fear causes some to take precarious measures to protect themselves.
The question at hand is whether American's are sensible enough to use guns responsibly.
As President Barack Obama took office, an increase in guns occurred, called the "Obama Effect."
According to the FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System, it was reported that 6.1 million background checks were issued for gun sales from January to May, presenting an increase of 25.6 percent.
This can be attributed to the fear American's have of the newly elected Democratic party passing anti-gun laws.
"That is going to cause an upswing in ammunition sales," stated Larry Keane, senior vice president of the National Shooting Sports Foundation in an interview with the Associated Press. "Without bullets a gun is just a paper weight."
While Americans normally buy about 7 billion rounds of ammunition a year, the National Rifle Association indicates this number has jumped to 9 billion rounds in the past year.
Although many are buying ammunition simply to stock up in case the democratic party moves towards anti-gun policies, the surge in bullet demand
could become the scene of a bloodier America.
Due to more people wanting to buy ammunition, major manufacturers have had to keep up with the rising demand.
Despite adding extra shifts around the clock, Al Russo, spokesman for The Remington Arms Company, which makes bullets for rifles, handguns and shotguns says they are still not able to keep up with America's rising demand.
