Health Services is currently conducting a survey all around campus, in which any professors can apply for their class to participate.

It is the National College Health Assessment which Health Services conducts every two to three years.

"The survey is a overall general standard survey that usually takes students about 45 minutes to complete," said Chris Kiger, director of health services.

The results of these surveys allow for the Health Center to find any trends among the student body and also if they should be emphasizing on a certain topic.

This health assessment survey is used all over the U.S. and is made possible by the American College Health Association. This survey is only for the students and is completely confidential. The health assessment survey usually consists of about 1,000 students and is a random sample.

This survey does not just cover one particular topic but many, from weight, nutrition and health to alcohol, tobacco and other drug use. It also covers sexual health, mental health, personal safety and violence.

"Students at FC show a higher percentage of depression than the national average," Kiger said.

This is a private and detailed survey which allows the Health Center to find the topic, or topics, students are in most need of getting information about.

The results from these surveys also allow the center to design even more programs or hold more events to aid students. Trends can also be identified that can be affecting the student population at Fullerton College. The survey may also show that the Health Center may need more resources whether it be staffing or monetary to be able to fulfill the student's needs.

This health assessment survey is a nationally recognized research survey that has allowed Health Services to implement different services and apply for grants. Past surveys have led to having a psychologist on campus five days a week, a quit smoking class and many more programs that aid the students.

The results from these surveys have allowed Health Services to secure grants to expand or fund new programs. The National Health Assessment Center has helped the Health Center in identifying what the student's needs are and how to fulfill their needs.
