Poet Visits Fullerton

It may sound cliché, but every once in a while a writer, musician or anyone who calls himself an artist presents the world in a way that teaches a unique perspective on the beauty of life.
Those who went to the Wilshire Auditorium Tuesday night, found out poet Lee Herrick is that artist.
The event was advertised as a poetry reading, but what transpired was so much more.
It was a revelation of what life truly is and what life could become, if given the chance.
Herrick spent the entire hour captivating the audience. Nobody in the crowd made a sound while Herrick's voice echoed through the chamber.
One of the more compelling poems was "Raison d'être," which translates to "reason for being."
"This is the beginning, almost anything can happen," Herrick said.
It is appropriate, that on a college campus, where hope is not merely a punch line and possibilities are not shattered dreams of a past life, that Herrick would speak of a beginning.
At the risk of sounding cliché once again, when Herrick finished speaking and the applause erupted, it did not seem like the end of a poetry reading. It was the beginning of an understanding, an understanding of what life can truly be.
