Pennsylvania-based band, Langhorne Slim, is touring the country and four-corner fans are following at an unfamiliar, but incredible speed. Three months removed from the release of their third full-length album, Be Set Free, boys and girls have been flooding into venues across the nation to get a live taste of the band's genre bending and unique sound.
With lovesick lyrics and soulful melodies, it's hard for one to deny frontman Sean Scolnick's genuine vocals. By throwing in guitar, stand up bass, and a banjo, their live shows have been serving as an escape for folk lovers with big dreams. The Hornet recently spoke with Scolnick about being who you are meant to be, the simple but sweet life on the road, and his plans to take over the world.
The Hornet: The end of January marked the beginning of your 2010 tour, what‘s the overall feeling thus far?
Sean Scolnick: It's going very well. We're only about a week into it. So the shows have been going great and the tour itself has been going very well.
TH: Your stops this time around are all within the states, any venues you're looking forward to playing?
SS: Just the ones that people are awesome at. For me it doesn't matter so much about the venue as much as it matters about how we play, how we perform and how the people are. We could do a great show in a [expletitive] place and a bad show in a beautiful place, and vice versa.
TH: It's said you discovered your passion when you were very young. What advice do you have for those currently in the same position?
SS: Well, I think people are different. Some people have something that they need to do and some people have a lot of things that they are good at. For me it was I didn't feel like I was good at anything else. Performing and playing is what made me happy and it was just clear to me that that's what I needed to do. So, I don't know. I think that people that need to paint know that they need to paint, and people that need to cook know that they need to cook, and people that play music know that they need to play music and rehearse. So if I had any advice it would just be, if you feel that way just do it. But people that feel that way already feel like they need to do it. Maybe no advice is necessary.
TH: Lastly, where are you hoping this tour will take the band?
SS: It's already taken us to some good places. Playing for some of the bigger crowds that we've had so far has made it an awesome tour. I hope it just continues that way and of course we're planning on taking over the entire universe, and making it beautiful with our music.
