Movie Review

The new gore-comedy Zombieland is a well-rounded zombie movie with all the right ingredients intact. It has well-placed humor (though at times slathered in a generous helping of cheese), enticing cuts of filleted flesh, cracked bones, blood and oozing organs, which get continuous screen-time throughout the 81-minute film.

The plot follows gawky college student Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) a colossal anti-hero that proves geeks aren't going out of fashion anytime soon.

 Columbus is trying to make his way home from college after zombies have taken over the country and left scarcely anything or anyone in one functioning piece.  

Once on the road, Columbus meets the yin to his yang in the hunk of man-flesh that calls himself Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), a man whose only soft spot appears to be for cream-filled Twinkie snacks.   

After the two men exhaust themselves with destroying random objects with gigantic guns, slaughtering zombies in beautifully artistic way, and bickering about senseless fodder, estrogen finally makes its way into the film in the form of raspy-voiced hottie Witchita (Emma Stone) and her kid sister christianed as Little Rock (Abigail Breslin). 

Midway through, Zombieland veers into generic end-of-the-world film territory, except in the few minutes where the four city-named characters wind up rubbing elbows with actor Bill Murray, playing his own loveably charming and charismatic self. 

Overall Zombieland is a film that offers a little something for everyone: funny dialogue, sexy eye-candy, a romantic sub-plot, apocalyptic explosions, inventive scenery, cliche yet likable characters, and most importantly gobs and gobs of gore.
