Fresh Beats Invade Pico Sports Arena For Fifth Annual Festival

Fresh events celebrated its fifth anniversary with laude booming music and good vibes this past weekend at the Pico Sports Arena in Whittier. The performances for the night included local disk jockeys LAZRTAG as well as New York’s own Designer Drugs, hardstyle prodigy Headhunterz, Brooklyn Bounce, Mustard Pimp, Global DeeJays, Go Ventures DJ Reza and many more.  The event promptly started at 7pm and continued late into Easter morning giving everyone in attendance one great Easter basket full of fresh memories.

The layout of the event was very similar to their previous event, Winter Fresh, which was held at the same venue. The layout of the stages felt like they took what they learned from there winter extravaganza and amped it up to hold what seemed like double the amount of people. Instead of the main stage being inside the arena, they moved it outside in a bigger and more open area. While the trance and drum & bass stages took up the outside of the arena, house and electro dominated the inside of the stadium with some of the best music of the night.

After learning the lay of the land, it was time to check out some electro house inside the arena. The night started out with some really good opening acts like Tonic, Paul Andrew & Tom Stein and LAZRTAG. Once LAZRTAG got on stage, it felt as if the show was finally starting, not because the previous acts were bad, but rather it felt like everyone was finally arriving to the festival, ready to dance the night away. After playing a good mix of music, it was time to wonder back to the main stage for some hardstyle With Brooklyn Bounce and Headhunterz.

Over on the main stage Brooklyn Bounce was wrapping up his set and Headhunterz was preparing to take to the stage. As expected, Headhunterz owned the stage, moving and dancing around the turntables like a mad man, with the constant booming bass that played at a steadily pounding 150 beats per minute. After getting a fix of the hardstyle. Over in the arena it was time for some Designer Drugs, not the real thing, the electro group.

Designer Drugs come from New York and are an up and coming electro group that just got added to The Bloody Beatroots show at the Palladium, which takes place Sunday April 25. So if DD was added to a Hard event, they are sure to tear the house down right? Well they proceeded to do so, opening with “Back Up In This Bitch” and flowing into a set that included hits like “Warp,” a remix of “Rhythm is a Dancer” and even some Jack Beats songs thrown in for good measure. Out of all the acts that played, Designer Drugs were by far the best performance of the night, leaving the crowd wanting more once they finished.

Coming on right after DD finished there outstanding set, Mustard Pimp had a hard act to fallow, but luckily they did not disappoint. Playing a great mix of music, MP had the crowd moving until Global DeeJays finally came on stage. GDJ had a very good set that started off with his hit single “The Sound of San Francisco,” which is a remix of the classic “San Francisco (Be Sure To Wear Flowers In Your Hair,” and continued to pile his pounding beats onto the packed arena.

The main attraction of the night in the arena was DJ Reza, from Go Ventures. As usual, Reza pulled up in his Ferrari just in time to start his unforgettable performance that blew away the audience in the arena. Reza played a great set of tracks that had everyone moving and grooving for the entire set.

The event finally ended at 4 a.m. with no real problems from local authorities or the surrounding neighborhoods. Fresh put on an event that was unforgettable, the performers were very good, with some hit and miss acts here and there, but overall the Fresh Anniversary came and conquered the Pico Sports Arena, further showing that Fresh is one of the best up and coming promoters in Southern California.
